Arizona may not be the first state that comes to mind when you think as a fly fishing destination. But don’t let that fool you. The Grand Canyon State has some unappreciated spots for bass, panfish, trout, and even stripers on the fly. I’ve heard from sportsmen exploring the rivers and streams across Arizona, the Arizona Council of Trout Unlimited (TU), Old Pueblo TU, guides, and so many others the the quality of fishing here is like no other place. From over fifty community or uban lakes, illisuve streams, your favorite spot invites a drop line or two. The Arizona Department of Game and Fish stocks rainbow trout in many of our waters, making these destination sports for fly anglers. Arizona boasts over 125 fished filled waters. In the warmer months, you can find largemouth and spotted bass eagerly attacking streamers and poppers. From panfish like bluegill, catfish, and rainbow trout are stocked during the year. These can be attracted with dry flies all day long. Visit the Arizona Game and Fish website for valuable information. The Arizona scenery is like those postcards with towering bluffs, lush forests, and crystal-clear water sent to our friends back home. And the trout fishing is top-notch with both rainbows and browns to be caught in our lakes and streams. Nymphing with pheasant tails and hare’s ears may be productive, but don’t be afraid to throw some streamers or even dry flies when the conditions are right.
